Summary

David Dobrik is a Slovak YouTube personality and runs one of the most popular channels on the platform. In 2019, his YouTube channel was the fifth most-viewed creator channel on the platform. David also runs one of the most popular TikTok channels on the platform and boasted the most-viewed video on TikTok in 2019. 

In addition to his work on social media, David has hosted and co-hosted a number of TV shows, including Nickelodeon’s “America’s Most Musical Family” and “Dodgeball Thunderdome” on the Discovery Channel.

Career

David Dobrik was born on July 23, 1996 in Kosice, Slovakia, near the Hungarian border. When he was six years old, his family moved to Illinois and he attended Vernon Hills High School, where he played tennis and advanced to the state tournament. 

As a Slovak citizen who arrived in the country as a child and stayed in the country illegally, David has protection through DACA. 

As of August 2020, David has more than 13.9 million Instagram followers, 5.4 million Twitter followers, 18.1 million YouTube subscribers and 20.4 million TikTok followers. 

While he was in high school, David joined the video sharing platform Vine and started posting short, comedic videos. David moved to Los Angeles after high school to start his career and pursue Vine. He started working with other popular Vine stars Lisa Koshy, Jason Nash and more. 

While he was in Los Angeles, he was part of the YouTube group “Second Class.” However, in 2015, Jason started his own YouTube channel. He posts sketch comedy videos and comedic videos based off of real life scenarios. Many of the videos feature his friends and former Vine collaborators. In 2016, he started his second channel, “David Dobrik Too,” where he will share bloopers, challenge videos and more. 

David’s YouTube career started taking off in 2017 when his channel gained followers; fans were attracted to his high-energy comedic videos. The following year, he made another YouTube channel titled “Views Podcast.” David posts video versions of his podcast, “Views.” He later opted to stop uploading the views to YouTube and instead focused on traditional streaming platforms. 

 

 

David’s success continued to grow and he made several appearances on television. In 2019, David was a judge on the Nickelodeon show “America’s Most Musical Family” with Ciara and Debbie Gibson. That same year, he co-hosted the Teen Choice Awards with Lucy Hale. He was awarded the Choice Male Web Star award. He was a guest judge on Chopped Junior in 2019 as well and presented at the American Music Awards. To top it off, YouTube named him the fifth most-viewed creator on the platform in 2019. 

David made his late night debut on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and he discussed the success of his YouTube channel and his inspiration for making viral videos. It was the number one late night episode that week. 

In 2020, it was announced that David would host “Dodgeball Thunderdome” on the Discovery Channel, a competition series that focuses on strength, strategy and more. 

Once David joined TikTok, he found a great deal of success as well. In 2019, his video featuring a large-scale elephant toothpaste experiment was the platform’s most-viewed video in 2019 with more than 180 million views. 

Over the course of his career so far, David has partnered with a number of big brands, including Chipotle, Seatgeek and Bumble, to name a few. 

Since his success, David has been featured in a number of publications for his work. PAPER Magazine named him one of the 10 social media personalities making the most noise. W Magazine featured him as one of the celebrities, along with Gigi Hadid, that started a different Instagram account for their film photos. Variety featured him in their “Power of Young Hollywood” 2019 edition. That same year, People named him one of their sexy heartthrobs to follow. 

David dated fellow star Liza Koshy from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, David legally married David Nash’s mother as a comedic bit for his YouTube vlog. He ended the marriage later that year.
